In “CARMEN,” a brave and independent young woman, played by Melissa Barrera, is forced to flee her home in the Mexican desert after her mother is brutally murdered. She endures a dangerous border crossing into the US where she encounters a ruthless volunteer border guard who kills two other immigrants in her group. Carmen finds herself caught in a deadly confrontation between the border guard and his PTSD-suffering patrol partner, Aidan, played by Paul Mescal. Together, Carmen and Aidan escape towards Los Angeles in search of Carmen’s mother’s friend, Masilda, who owns a nightclub called La Sombra. As they find refuge in Masilda’s sanctuary of music and dance, their bond strengthens, but they must evade the approaching police threat.
