What We Know So Far: Will James Spader Reprise His Role as Ultron in WandaVision Season 2?
Exciting news for Marvel fans! A new Vision series, following the success of WandaVision, has been announced and fans are buzzing with excitement. Rumors have been circulating about Elizabeth Olsen reprising her role as Wanda, also known as Scarlett Witch, after a mysterious death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Additionally, reports confirm that James Spader will return as Ultron.
The Emmy-winning actor will voice the supervillain Ultron, a decade after his initial appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015. This reprisal promises to be iconic. Paul Bettany is also set to return as Vision, who had a complex journey from falling in love with Wanda Maximoff, dying when the mind stone was destroyed in Avengers: Infinity War, and returning to life with Wanda’s magic. Vision has truly experienced a rollercoaster of events.
At the end of WandaVision, we catch a glimpse of the newly rebuilt white Vision who is set to “explore his new purpose in life.” The Hex Vision restored the original data into the White Vision, allowing him to remember his relationship with Wanda and the significance of the mind stone. The untitled Vision sequel, tentatively named Vision Quest, is scheduled for a 2025 release on Disney+. The series will be directed by Terry Matalas, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Adding to the mix, Ultron, the menacing supervillain who strived to annihilate humanity, will return. Initially created by Tony Stark, also known as Iron Man, as a defense mechanism, Ultron rebelled against humanity. Ultron then created Vision, but before he could corrupt him, the Avengers intervened. Vision was granted consciousness through AI J.A.R.V.I.S with the help of Bruce Baner, also known as the Hulk, and Tony Stark. Vision was neither Ultron nor J.A.R.V.I.S, and aided the Avengers in defeating his creator, Ultron, to save the planet. James Spader provided the voice for Ultron in the movie.
In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Ultron met his demise. So, his return in the Vision series raises questions about how he will be reintroduced and his dynamic with Vision. This untitled series completes the trilogy that began with WandaVision, followed by Agatha All Along featuring Kathryn Hahn, and now the Vision series. The second part is set to debut in September on Disney+.
