Actor Rajkummar Rao reveals how much he was paid for his debut film Love Sex Aur Dhokha and why ‘work was important’
Rajkummar Rao made his debut with Dibakar Banerjee’s 2010 film Love Sex Aur Dhokha. Despite now starring in high-budget movies, he only earned Rs 11,000 for his first film. Read on to discover the interesting story that the Stree 2 actor shared in an interview with Raj Shamani.
After moving to Mumbai, Rao struggled to find acting opportunities for over a year. Eventually, he saw an ad for LSD casting and quickly reached Dibakar’s office. However, he was directed to meet casting director Atul Mongia. Rajkummar managed to get in touch and was asked to share his pictures, which he did multiple times before getting an audition opportunity.
Rajkummar Rao revealed that during his audition, he wore ‘atrangi (weird) clothes as instructed. Despite concerns about his outfit, he impressed Banerjee with his audition. They requested him to lose weight from his face, to which he complied. Eventually, after multiple rounds, he received the call confirming his role in the film.

Although he was only paid ₹11000 for his first film, Rajkummar emphasized that the work was more important to him than the money.
Produced by Ekta Kapoor, Shobha Kapoor, and Priya Sreedharan under ALT Entertainment, Love Sex Aur Dhokha also featured Anshuman Jha, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Neha Chauhan, Amit Sial, Herry Tangri, and Ashish Sharma. The film had a sequel released in 2024 which did not perform well at the box office.
