The Condition Shah Rukh Khan’s Mother Gave for His First Movie Theater Experience
Shah Rukh Khan recently attended the 77th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, where he was honored with a prestigious award. Following the ceremony, he engaged with the audience and answered some questions from his fans. The 58-year-old actor reminisced about his first experience watching a movie in a cinema hall with his mother.
The Bollywood star shared that Hindi was not his strongest subject in school. His mother had set a condition that he must score full marks, a 10 on 10 in Hindi dictation, in order to accompany her to watch a movie in a theatre. Determined to see the movie on the big screen, Shah Rukh Khan managed to achieve full marks by copying an answer from a friend.
As promised, his mother, Lateef Fatima Khan, took him to watch the 1973 thriller film “Joshila” directed by Yash Chopra for the first time in a theatre. Interestingly, he later collaborated with Yash Chopra on numerous films throughout his career.
During the interaction, Shah Rukh credited Chopra for playing a significant role in his journey to the film festival in Switzerland and receiving the award. He highlighted the connections in life and mentioned their collaborations in films like “Darr,” “Dil To Pagal Hai,” “Veer-Zaara,” and “Jab Tak Hai Jaan.”
The actor also reflected on his relationship with his parents and how their passing led him to leave his hometown, New Delhi. He initially thought of pursuing roles in television or becoming a scientist or mass communication journalist. However, he came to Mumbai in 1990 with the goal of working for a year, earning Rs 1 lakh, buying a house, and then returning.
After starting with small roles in TV and films, Shah Rukh Khan gradually built his career and never went back to his hometown. His journey in the industry has been filled with iconic collaborations and memorable projects.
