Looking back: Hrithik Roshan’s doubts about playing ‘dude’ roles in movies and how ‘Koi… Mil Gaya’ felt tailor-made for him
Bollywood’s ‘Greek God’ Hrithik Roshan is a supremely talented actor who captivates his fans with his charming personality, versatile acting skills, and impressive dance moves. From the iconic hook step of “Ek Pal Ka Jeena” in Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai to his memorable performances in films like Koi…Mil Gaya, Guzaarish, and Lakshya, Hrithik has left a lasting impact on the audience. In a candid moment, the 50-year-old actor admitted that he initially struggled with playing ‘dude’ characters and found Koi…Mil Gaya to be a perfect fit for him.
Reflecting on his past choices, Hrithik Roshan shared in a 2023 interview with Bollywood Hungama why he decided to move away from playing cool characters.
Hrithik confessed that he didn’t feel comfortable portraying ‘dude’ roles as it didn’t resonate with him, except for his roles in Kaho Naa…Pyaar Hai and Fiza. He revealed that he felt pressured to fulfill audience expectations but realized it wasn’t aligned with his true self. The actor emphasized that he is drawn to characters with depth, purpose, and meaning rather than just surface-level qualities.
It was after the film Dhoom 2 that Hrithik discovered a new perspective on playing ‘dude’ characters. Prior to that, he associated being a ‘dude’ with superficial qualities like looks and style. Despite initially struggling with such roles, he found his stride in Koi…Mil Gaya where he portrayed a mentally challenged character that resonated with him deeply.
Embracing the role, Hrithik felt a sense of belonging and realized that this was where his true talent shone. Have you seen Koi…Mil Gaya yet?
