Vikrant Massey doesn’t want to call himself ‘box office star’ even after 12th Fail’s big success; says ‘ek inning mein khelke…’

Vikrant Massey refuses to label himself as a ‘box office star’ despite the success of 12th Fail; states ‘I believe in playing the long game…’

Vikrant Massey, known for his Bollywood debut in Lootera in 2013 alongside Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha, has now established himself as a prominent figure in the industry. His most recent release, 12th Fail in 2023, has been a defining moment in his career, receiving high praise from critics and audiences alike. Despite this success, Vikrant maintains that he does not consider himself a “box-office star.”

In a recent interview with Mashable India, Vikrant Massey expressed his gratitude towards the audience for the success of 12th Fail, considering it a significant milestone in his career. He humbly stated, “When I started preparing for the film, there was a valid scepticism about its reception in the cinema. There were many real people involved, not just actors. I still have a long way to go before I can be considered a box office star.”

The actor from Blackout also mentioned that he would continue to hold this view until he delivers a consistent string of 5-7 successful films in the future. He emphasized the importance of maintaining visibility and being reliable on the big screen to achieve such status.

Vikrant illustrated his point using a cricket analogy, stating that just like in cricket, you cannot declare victory after playing just one inning. He believes that true success comes from sustained performance over time.

Directed, written, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, 12th Fail is inspired by the book of the same name by Anurag Pathak, depicting the story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma who triumphed over severe poverty. The film premiered on October 27 last year and is currently available for streaming on Disney+Hotstar.

Currently, apart from his notable roles in films like Dil Dhadakne Do, A Death in the Gunj, and Chhapaak, Vikrant Massey is set to appear in Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba, a sequel to the 2018 film.
