The First Baby Arrives for Olympian Mary Lou Retton’s Daughter Skyla
Mary Lou Retton is embarking on a new chapter as a grandmother.
The former Olympian’s daughter Skyla Kelley has given birth to her first child, a baby girl, as reported by People.
“I’m going to be a LouLou,” Mary Lou expressed to the publication, preferring this nickname over others like Mimi, Gigi, or Nana. “A LouLou!”
At 56 years old, Mary Lou is excited to dote on her granddaughter and any future grandchildren, joking that she didn’t spoil her own children as much. “I’ll spoil them, play with them when they come over, enjoy every moment,” she shared. “It’s going to be LouLou’s time!”
The family announced Skyla’s pregnancy in May, with the 24-year-old proudly displaying her baby bump during her 22-year-old sister Emma‘s graduation from the University of Arkansas.
Despite this joyous occasion, Mary Lou faced challenges this year when she was hospitalized with a rare form of pneumonia in October. She has three daughters, Shayla (29) and McKenna (27), with her ex-husband Shannon Kelley.
