Team USA Gold Medal Winners’ Paychecks Unveiled
Winning gold now has a new significance.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, athletes not only earn a gold, silver, or bronze medal, but also receive a monetary prize. However, the amount varies depending on the athlete’s country.
Team USA athletes are rewarded with $37,500 for gold, $22,500 for silver, and $15,000 for bronze.
While this may not significantly impact athletes like Lebron James, who, according to Forbes, earned $128.2 million between May 2023 and May 2024, it can be life-changing for less talked-about sports athletes.
“The difference between first and fourth in a race,” American canoer Nevin Harrison stated earlier this year, “which comes down to just 0.3 seconds, determines where I live next year. It’s not just about excitement or disappointment, but about being able to pay my bills.”
