Olympic Judo Champion Injures Shoulder While Celebrating Bronze Medal Victory
Olympian Adil Osmanov has faced a challenging situation.
The Moldovan judo star was savoring his bronze medal victory at the 2024 Paris Olympics against Italy’s Manuel Lombardo on July 29 when his celebration was interrupted by what seemed to be a shoulder dislocation.
As captured in video footage of the incident, the 24-year-old was jubilantly raising his hands in triumph, only to suddenly cry out in pain, clutching his shoulder after a fist pump across his body.
Fortunately, Adil’s injury during the celebration was quickly addressed, allowing him to attend his medal ceremony. He, along with Soichi Hashimoto of Japan, secured bronze medals in the judo 73kg category, with Joan-Benjamin Gaba of France taking silver and Azerbaijan’s Hidayat Heydarov clinching the gold medal.
Following the competition, Adil revealed that he had been recommended for shoulder surgery prior to the Paris Olympics and that it had been bothering him during the match.
