Eminem on the creation of Slim Shady
While the real Slim Shady has been adored by Eminem’s fans, there is a story behind his inception. The alter ego is known for bringing a unique flair to his music, infusing it with powerful lyrics.
In a special video from Complex titled “Slim Shady vs. Marshall Mathers: The Face-Off,” released on July 30, Eminem reflects on the impact of Slim Shady on his life.
Slim Shady has been a significant part of Eminem’s career since the 1997 Slim Shady EP and continued through The Slim Shady LP in 1999. In the recent video interview, Eminem revealed that he created Slim Shady during a difficult time in his life when his musical career was stagnant and he was struggling financially.
In a conversation with his younger self, represented by his alter ego in an AI form, Eminem confessed, “You didn’t fix anything. You actually made that s**t worse.”
Further in the video, Eminem acknowledges that Slim Shady is responsible for his self-medication and addiction, as well as the strain it caused on his relationships and personal life.
Eminem’s The Death of Slim Shady
This recent interview follows the release of Eminem’s latest album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce),” which came out on July 12.
Prior to the album’s release, Eminem made a statement on X (formerly Twitter) regarding the conceptual nature of the album; listening to the tracks out of order would diminish the intended meaning.
Additionally, the artist shared an obituary for Slim Shady in the Detroit Free Press before the album dropped.
