Oscars 2025 Update: John Mulaney Declines Hosting Offer Following Jimmy Kimmel; Here’s What we Know
The Oscars 2025 is just under a year away, but preparations are already underway. The prestigious awards ceremony is currently in search of the most crucial individual of the night – the host. Despite hosting in March, veteran Jimmy Kimmel has declined the offer to host for the fifth time at the upcoming Academy Awards.
John Mulaney, another potential host, has also rejected the opportunity to present next year’s ceremony, leaving the Oscars without a host as of now.
John Mulaney said to turn down Oscars 2025 hosting gig
Comedian and actor John Mulaney, aged 41, was reportedly in line to host the Oscars 2025 but declined the offer due to scheduling conflicts, as reported by Puck News. Mulaney, known for hosting the Academy Governors Awards and various stand-up comedy specials on Netflix, turned down ABC’s offer to host the Oscars next year due to prior commitments.
Best known for his work in sitcoms like Mulaney and Big Mouth, as well as voice-acting in popular films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Mulaney’s decision comes on the heels of Jimmy Kimmel’s rejection of the same opportunity.
Considering his long tenure hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! on ABC, where the Oscars are broadcast, it appeared likely that Kimmel would return for another year. Nonetheless, Kimmel’s recent priorities, including spending more time with his family, may have influenced his decision to turn down the Oscars hosting gig.
Which hosts might be in the charts for Oscars 2025?
With Kimmel and Mulaney out of the running, the Academy may consider past hosts for the upcoming Oscars. Notable past hosts include Amy Schumer, Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes, Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Steve Martin, Whoopi Goldberg, Neil Patrick Harris, and Seth MacFarlane.
