During his visit to the Team USA House at the Paris Games, Flavor Flav greeted team members with high fives, hugs, and handshakes. The partnership, announced on July 1st, includes a significant financial grant to assist the women’s team in their quest for Olympic gold in Paris 2024.
Known as a founding member of Public Enemy, Flavor Flav is excited to serve as the official hype man for USA Water Polo during the Olympics. This collaboration stemmed from an interaction between Flav and Maggie Steffens, the captain of the US team, on Instagram back in May.
The 65-year-old rapper, known for his boundless energy, is fully embracing his new role. In one of his videos, Flav expressed his excitement for the sport, stating, “I’m so ready, man. … I’m so hype right now about this sport. I wish I was playing it. I’m hyping myself up right now to ask them to let me on the team.”
How did the deal between Flavor Fav and the US women’s Water polo team come up?
After Maggie Steffens highlighted the financial struggles of Olympic athletes on social media, Flav’s management team brought the issue to his attention. In response, Flav pledged to assist, leading to a unique sponsorship agreement between him and USA Water Polo.
As part of the five-year deal, Flavor Flav will provide financial support to the women’s team and collaborate on social media efforts to promote the sport. This partnership solidified Flav’s position as an official team sponsor and hype man. Ahead of his trip to Paris, Flav joined the team in the pool for training sessions, even scoring against goalkeeper and two-time Olympic champion Ashleigh Johnson.
