Aly Raisman Supports Jade Carey After Mistake at Paris Games
Named after fellow sports great Michael Jordan, Jordan Chiles started her gymnastics journey at the age of 6. She quickly progressed through the competition levels, adding more trophies to her shelf along the way.
Despite her achievements, the now 23-year-old didn’t always feel accepted. In a July 2024 interview with ELLE, Chiles recalled facing racial attacks and being criticized for not fitting the stereotype of a typical gymnast due to her muscular physique.
At a point where she felt like the sport didn’t want her, Biles extended an invitation for Chiles to train at her Texas gym in 2018. Reflecting on her past experiences, Chiles expressed how those challenges made her stronger, more confident, and helped her better understand herself as a person. Despite the struggles, it took her some time to find her love for the sport again.
Fast-forward to the 2020 Olympics, where both athletes competed. Chiles stepped in for Biles in the team final and together, they secured the team silver medal.
Chiles, who also competes for UCLA, gained widespread recognition for her perfect 10 performance at the 2023 NCAA Championships, set to 90s hip-hop music. Her Beyoncé-inspired routine earned her a spot at the 2024 Olympics.
