Thalavan 2: Asif Ali and Biju Menon reunite under Jis Joy’s direction with a blazing BGM
Thalavan, starring Asif Ali and Biju Menon, is among the most successful Malayalam movies of this year. Directed by Jis Joy, this cop thriller has garnered praise from critics and audiences alike.
While Thalavan received many accolades, some viewers felt that certain aspects of the film were left unresolved. Fans who loved the movie have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to tie up loose ends. Their wishes were granted when the makers officially announced Thalavan 2 on July 21st.
During the 65th-day celebration of the film, renowned Malayalam director Dileesh Pothan, who had a significant role in Thalavan, announced the sequel on stage. The makers of Thalavan later confirmed the news through a social media post.

On the movie’s official page, the creators wrote, “The saga of justice continues. Thalavan 2 is officially announced. Get ready for the next chapter! @thalavan_movie 2.”
Thalavan 2 will be directed by Jis Joy, known for his feel-good movies. The screenplay will be penned by Anand Theverkatt and Sarath Perumbavoor, who also wrote the first installment.
The creators of Thalavan intentionally left open multiple subplots, hinting at potential additional crimes, unresolved cases, or unanswered questions. The conclusion of the first film provided ample opportunity for a sequel.
Thalavan has not yet been released on OTT platforms. It is expected to premiere on Sony Liv by the first week of September, giving cinephiles a chance to watch it after its theatrical run.
Work ahead for Asif Ali
Asif Ali has several upcoming releases this year. Next up is “Level Cross,” hitting theaters on July 26, with the trailer just released.
Additionally, Asif Ali stars in the ZEE5 anthology series “Manorathangal,” featuring stories by MT Vasudevan Nair alongside top actors like Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Kamal Haasan.
During the trailer launch of Manorathangal, music director Ramesh Narayan made headlines by refusing a memento from Asif Ali. He later apologized for his actions.
