Shannen Doherty Passes Away at Age 53 Following Brave Battle with Cancer
Hollywood mourns the loss of a legendary figure.
Actress Shannen Doherty, famous for her roles in Beverly Hills, 90210, Charmed, and Heathers, passed away on July 13 after a courageous battle with stage 4 breast cancer. She was 53 years old.
“On Saturday, July 13, she lost her fight against cancer after battling the disease for many years,” her publicist Leslie Sloane shared with People on July 14. “Surrounded by loved ones and her dog, Bowie, the devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend peacefully passed away. The family requests privacy during this time to mourn in peace.”
Doherty’s passing comes almost eight months after revealing that her cancer had spread to her brain and later to her bones. She had previously battled breast cancer in 2015 and went into remission in 2017.
However, in February 2020, she disclosed that the cancer had returned.
“I haven’t fully processed it,” Doherty shared with ABC News regarding her diagnosis that month. “It’s a tough reality to accept in many ways. I have moments where I question, ‘Why me?’ And then I think, ‘Well, why not me? Who else? Who else but me deserves this?’ None of us do.”
The Memphis native, who filed for divorce from Kurt Iswarienko in April 2023 after 11 years of marriage, added, “My primary concern is always how to break the news to my mom and my husband.”
