Back in 1980, Diana used her clothing choices to send a message to the public. At a polo match, she caught everyone’s attention by wearing a bright red knit sweater with a unique pattern featuring white sheep and a black sheep. Many thought this was her way of expressing that she felt like an outsider.
Regardless of her true intentions, the sweater by Warm & Wonderful quickly became a sensation. The brand even teamed up with Sperry to incorporate the design into shoes, showcasing Princess Diana’s lasting influence.
The memory of Diana’s iconic royal wedding in 1981 still lingers, especially her stunning 25-foot train adorned with sequins and pearls that left everyone in awe.
“She never went for a subtle or understated gown,” designer David Emanuel shared with E! News in 2021. “I remember laughing with her about the grandeur and the whole spectacle of it.”
Another standout moment from the ’80s was her polka dot blouse with bold puffed sleeves and a daring neckline, worn to a polo match. This look was revisited by the late Virgil Abloh in 2017, as part of Off-White’s spring/summer 2018 collection inspired by Diana’s iconic style.
