Nana Patekar reflects on the loss of his elder son at a young age
Nana Patekar, famous for his roles in films like Agni Sakshi, Parinda, and Welcome, spoke candidly during an interview with The Lallantop. He shared his experience of navigating through a difficult period after losing his young son.
The 73-year-old actor revealed that his elder son was born with a cleft palate and vision issues in one eye. Reflecting on his own reaction to his son’s condition, Nana Patekar expressed guilt, saying, “The first thought that crossed my mind when I saw him like that was, ‘What will people think of me, that my son looks like this’. Imagine what a terrible man I am. My primary concern was about my image, not his well-being.”

Opening up further, the veteran actor shared how he coped with the loss. He revealed that his late son Durvasa remains a poignant trigger for his feelings of sadness and vulnerability. “I’ve always maintained a stoic demeanor. I don’t cry. I only cry in movies, and I do it for money,” he confessed.
To deal with his grief, Nana Patekar admitted to smoking around 60 cigarettes daily. While acknowledging the harm of this habit, he disclosed that the smell of smoke permeated his car to the extent that no one wanted to ride with him. “I wasn’t much of a drinker, but I smoked excessively,” the actor added.
On the professional front, Nana Patekar’s most recent appearance was in the medical docudrama film The Vaccine War alongside Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and other talented actors.
