Why Ben Higgins Describes His Relationship with Ex Lauren Bushnell as Similar to Coworkers
Ben Higgins reflects on a pivotal moment in his life that occurred during a highly dramatic season.
Seven years following his separation from Lauren Lane (previously Bushnell), the former Bachelor contestant shared the specific instant when he realized their relationship had reached its end.
Following their engagement in 2016 on The Bachelor, Ben and Lauren participated in the spinoff series Ben & Lauren: Happily Ever later that same year. Even former Bachelor host Chris Harrison proposed the idea of a televised wedding for the couple during the show. However, according to Ben, the spark was already fading by that time.
“We had been facing challenges for around a month,” disclosed the 35-year-old during the May 28 episode of the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast. “We were engaged in therapy and sincerely trying to salvage the relationship. We were at odds.”
In reality, Ben revealed that he and Lauren had minimal communication outside of filming the show.
“We were essentially professional acquaintances,” he elaborated. “While residing in the same residence, we barely spoke off-camera due to exhaustion after the cameras departed at 9 o’clock. With upcoming work commitments, and Lauren continuing her job as a flight attendant, we were both drained. We didn’t engage in conversation. Truly, we hadn’t conversed in weeks.”
