Alec Baldwin Reveals Nearly Four Decades Clean From Drugs and Alcohol
In May 2023, the former member of One Direction celebrated reaching 100 days of sobriety.
“I feel fantastic,” he said during that time. “I feel really great, and the support from the fans and everyone has been amazing.”
His struggle with addiction started during the peak of One Direction’s popularity. “The issue we faced in the band—and I don’t blame anyone for it…But it seemed like, in order to protect us because of our huge popularity, we were just locked in a room. And of course, what was in the room? A minibar,” Liam shared. “So at some point, I decided, ‘Well, I’ll just have a party for one,’ and that behavior continued for many years.”
He has been open about his journey to sobriety. “It wasn’t until I saw myself afterwards that I realized, ‘Okay, I need to make a change,'” he remembered in June 2021 when he mentioned he had been sober for over a month. “I saw a few pictures of myself on a boat and I looked bloated, and I called it pills-and-booze face… My face was much puffier back then. I didn’t like myself very much, so I decided to make a change.”
