Original Character from The Simpsons Written Out After 35 Seasons
An empty stool will now be a permanent fixture at Moe’s Tavern.
After a 35-season run, The Simpsons character Larry the Barfly, voiced by Harry Shearer, has been written off the show.
In the episode “Cremains of the Day” that aired on April 21, Homer Simpson, Lenny Leonard (also voiced by Harry), Carl Carlson, and Moe Szyslak feel remorse for not knowing much about Larry, who passes away at the tavern. To ease their guilt, the group sets out to Serenity Falls to scatter his ashes.
The 765th episode finally delves into the backstory of the barfly, revealing his full name as Lawrence Dalrymple and his passion for fishing, a character first introduced in the pilot episode back in 1989.
Although Larry will no longer be a part of Harry’s voice repertoire, he will continue to lend his voice to various other characters like Ned Flanders, Mr. Burns, Reverend Lovejoy, and Principal Skinner—for now.
