Cheslie Kryst, Miss USA, Opens Up About Her Struggles in Memoir Released After Her Passing
While trying to maintain a focus on positive statements of power, Cheslie found that the positivity only lasted for a limited time.
By the Time You Read This is scheduled for release on April 23, with proceeds from the book benefiting the Cheslie C. Kryst Foundation, which provides mental health support for young people. The book is a joint project between Cheslie and her mother April Simpkins. Before Cheslie’s passing, she left a note for her mother, urging her to ensure the memoir was published.
April has been transparent about Cheslie’s mental health challenges and has been working to raise awareness since the tragic loss of the beauty queen to suicide in January 2022 in New York.
“Cheslie had both a public and a private life,” she shared with E! News later that year. “Privately, she was battling high-functioning depression that she kept hidden from everyone, including me, her closest confidant, until shortly before her passing.”
“The pain I feel is unimaginable,” she continued. “It has forever altered me.”
