Gabby Thomas, Olympic Sprinter, Shares Her Favorite Moment from the 2020 Games
However, this does not mean she has to turn her back on her original passion. “I reached a point where I wondered, ‘Do I have to choose?'” she confessed. “And I decided, no, because I’ve never had to make a choice before. I have always been able to pursue exactly what I wanted and I have always been able to do it all. So, I told myself, I’m going to do it all! I’m going to use this master’s degree to focus on health equity work that I love, make a difference in the community, and continue running on the track.”
For Thomas, this involves seizing opportunities like partnering with Eli Lilly and Company—the health equity sponsor of Team USA.
With her expertise, she was especially attracted to the brand’s commitment to “increasing diversity in clinical trials and enhancing education and job opportunities for individuals in historically marginalized communities,” Thomas explained. “This cause has always been significant to me. I dedicate a considerable amount of my off-track time to this mission, which I have been passionate about since high school, through college, and even during my master’s program. I am thrilled to be a part of this.”
