Conjoined Twins Lori and George Schappel, Believed to be the World’s Oldest, Pass Away at Age 62
The siblings also made appearances on various documentaries and episodes of The Howard Stern Show and The Jerry Springer Show in the ’90s and early 2000s.
In 2007, the Schappells made history by becoming the world’s first same-sex conjoined twins to openly identify as different genders, with George coming out as transgender, as confirmed by Guinness World Records.
Throughout their lives, the twins consistently emphasized that they were not constrained or defined by their conjoined status.
“Normalcy is subjective, but we are content,” Lori expressed to the Los Angeles Times. “Ultimately, it all boils down to compromise. If more individuals embraced this in life, the world would undoubtedly be a more harmonious place.”
