Some Swifties seem to believe that Joe Alwyn was either ashamed of dating Taylor Swift or intentionally kept her away from them. This belief became more widespread when Swift began dating NFL star Travis Kelce, who openly expressed his admiration for her. Kelce has been very open about his feelings for Swift, while Alwyn mostly kept to himself. When Swift posted a TikTok featuring her, Kelce, and her parents at a post-Super Bowl party, one Swiftie tweeted about how meaningful it was to see her being open about her relationship, unlike with Alwyn.
Some fans speculated that Alwyn had urged Swift to keep a low profile like he does. Another fan vented about how Alwyn tried to silence Swift about their relationship.
To be fair to Alwyn, he has always maintained that he doesn’t owe anyone details about his private life. “I don’t think anyone you meet on the streets would just spill their guts out to you, therefore why should I?” he told Mr. Porter’s The Journal. “And then that is defined as being ‘strangely private.’ Fine. But I don’t think it is. I think it’s normal.”
