“Sneak Peek into Ralph Fiennes’ Experience with Maggie Smith’s Witty Charm in Harry Potter”
“When I first met Maggie Smith, I was just 9 years old and we were going through scenes for David Copperfield, which happened to be my very first job,” the Harry Potter actor shared in a statement. “At that time, I didn’t know much about her except that my parents were amazed that I would be working with her. The only other thing I knew was that she was a Dame, so the first thing I asked her was ‘should I address you as Dame?’ to which she chuckled and replied with something like ‘don’t be silly!'”
Daniel further explained his long-standing working relationship with the beloved actress.
“I was nervous to meet her initially, but she immediately put me at ease,” he recalled. “She was incredibly kind to me during that shoot, and later on, I was fortunate enough to continue working with her for another decade on the Harry Potter movies. She possessed a sharp intellect, a sharp wit, could be both intimidating and charming in the same breath, and as everyone will attest, she was incredibly funny. I will always consider myself extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to collaborate with her and spend time with her on set. The term ‘legend’ is often overused, but if there’s anyone in our industry who it truly applies to, it’s her. Thank you, Maggie.”
