Erik Menendez and Lyle Menendez’s Lawyer Speaks Out Amid Resentencing

Attorney of Erik and Lyle Menendez Breaks Silence in Response to Resentencing

He mentioned, “Nothing would bring me more joy than being able to celebrate Thanksgiving with them, with Joan, and have them present.”

Although their attorney is optimistic, Erik, 53, and Lyle, 56, will still require a judge to endorse the DA’s decision, along with a parole board to grant their release. The final decision will ultimately rest with California governor Gavin Newsom, who could potentially veto the board’s ruling.

During the press conference on Oct. 24, the DA highlighted two new pieces of evidence put forth by their lawyer as the reasons behind recommending resentencing.

The first piece was a letter penned by Erik to their cousin Andy Cando eight months before the 1989 murders, where he disclosed the alleged abuse by their father. The second was a statement from former Menudo band member Roy Rosselló claiming he was assaulted by José, who collaborated with the band while serving as COO of RCA Records, in the Menendez family residence.

“There are individuals in the office who strongly believe that the Menendez brothers should remain imprisoned for life, and dispute the allegations of molestation,” the DA stated during the press conference. “And there are others who firmly believe they should be released immediately, and that they were indeed victims of molestation.”
