Eric Roberts Speaks Out About Their Estranged Relationship with Daughter Emma Roberts
Eric Roberts is opening up about his family relationships.
After apologizing to his sister Julia Roberts for their estrangement, the actor talked about his bond with daughter Emma Roberts when reflecting on the toughest period in his life.
“Probably the loss of relationship with my daughter,” shared the Dancing With the Stars contestant on the Oct. 22 episode of the Inside of You podcast. “There’s not a pain, there’s a sadness for the, most likely, misunderstandings [that] I’ll have forever. Because we’re human.”
The Pope of Greenwich Village star welcomed Emma, now 33, with ex Kelly Cunningham in 1991 and later married Eliza Roberts. He lost custody of his daughter during his battle with addiction, which he described as the “biggest consequence” of his drug use in his memoir, Runaway Train: Or the Story of My Life So Far.
Although Eric has been sober since 1995, he has gained a new perspective on his feelings towards Emma—who has a 3-year-old son, Rhodes Robert Hedlund, with ex Garrett Hedlund—in recent years.
