Former Partner of Liam Payne, Cheryl Cole, Shares her Thoughts on his Passing
Cheryl Cole is dealing with a profound loss.
The ex-partner of Liam Payne—with whom she has a 7-year-old son named Bear—has broken her silence following the tragic death of the former member of One Direction. Liam passed away at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Oct. 16.
“As I try to navigate this devastating event,” Cheryl shared in a message on Instagram on Oct. 18, “and process my own grief during this incredibly painful time, I want to remind everyone that a human being has been lost.”
“Liam was more than just a pop star and a celebrity; he was a son, a brother, an uncle, a dear friend, and a father to our 7-year-old son,” she continued. “Our son now has to come to terms with never seeing his father again. What weighs heavily on my heart is the thought that one day Bear will come across the hurtful news and media coverage we have witnessed over the past couple of days. It breaks my heart even more knowing that I won’t be able to shield him from that in the future.”
Cheryl, who also posted a picture of Bear and Liam together, made a plea.
“I implore you to consider the purpose of some of these reports,” she wrote, “aside from causing more pain to those left behind trying to piece things together. Before you leave comments or create videos, ask yourself if you would want your own child or family to see them.”
“Please allow Liam to have some dignity remaining in the aftermath of his passing,” she concluded, “and finally rest in peace.”
