Vettaiyan directed by TJ Gnanavel and starring Rajinikanth, Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati and others, concluded its extended first week grossing close to Rs 207 crore worldwide. Out of the total, around Rs 183 crore came in the extended 4-day Dussehra weekend itself. However, the movie struggled to maintain momentum and only grossed Rs 24 crore during the weekdays. The performance in the second weekend will determine its future, but chances of a comeback seem slim.
Vettaiyan Grosses Rs 207 Crore Worldwide In Extended Week 1; Good Weekend But Poor Weekdays
Vettaiyan grossed Rs 134 crore in India during its extended first week, with Tamil Nadu contributing Rs 80 crore. While it initially seemed likely to surpass Rs 100 crore in Tamil Nadu and even reach Rs 150 crore, those milestones have not been achieved yet. Internationally, the movie grossed nearly 8 million dollars in the extended weekend but faced a decline in the weekdays. It is projected to end up below USD 10 million, far from the success of Rajinikanth’s previous film Jailor, which crossed USD 23 million.
