Karthik Subbaraj originally pitched Jigarthanda DoubleX and Chiyaan Vikram’s Mahaan to Rajinikanth, did you know?
Karthik Subbaraj, recently completed his film, tentatively titled Suriya 44, shared in an interview how he initially discussed the concepts of Jigarthanda DoubleX and Mahaan with Rajinikanth.
During a conversation with SS Music, the talented director mentioned, “I first presented the concept of Jigarthanda DoubleX after Petta, but it was in its early stages. After watching the film, he asked me why I didn’t share the story with him, to which I replied that I did, but it wasn’t as developed then.”
Additionally, he also talked about narrating the plot of the movie Mahaan, starring Chiyaan Vikram, to the superstar. He mentioned, “Whenever I have a basic idea, I share it with him, but next time I should be fully prepared when pitching it to him.”
For those unaware, Jigarthanda DoubleX and Mahaan both received acclaim from Karthik Subbaraj. The film featuring Chiyaan Vikram revolves around a commerce teacher who rises in society to become a liquor baron, only to face a challenge when his long-lost son returns seeking revenge for abandoning the family’s values.
Jigarthanda DoubleX serves as the prequel to the 2014 movie Jigarthanda, directed by Karthik himself. The story follows an aspiring policeman wrongly accused and his attempt to defeat a local gangster while posing as a film director for his escape.
Looking at the director’s upcoming projects, Karthik Subbaraj is set to release his film with Suriya, described as a love story with action elements. Moreover, Rajinikanth, last seen in Vettaiyan, is preparing for his next venture Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.
