Alia Bhatt’s Jailbreak Drama “Jigra” Disappoints at the Box Office in Week 1, Earns Only Rs 22 Crore
Jigra, a film directed by Vasan Bala and starring Alia Bhatt, Vedang Raina, Manoj Pahwa, and others, had a disappointing first weekend at the box office with a total collection of just Rs 16.50 crore. The movie failed to attract a consistent audience throughout the weekdays, indicating a lack of connection with viewers. In its first week, Jigra managed to collect Rs 22 crore, but even with no major competition in the coming weeks, it is unlikely to capitalize on this advantage.
Jigra Collects Rs 22 Crore In First Week in India
Jigra was anticipated to resonate well with its target audience, predominantly upscale multiplex audiences in metro cities. However, it fell short of expectations. Despite being a prominent release during Dussehra, it ended up as the second-choice film for the entire week, rather than just the first day or weekend. This trend is expected to continue for the duration of its theatrical run.
Jigra Disappoints in India But Fares Better Internationally
Jigra is projected to reach a lifetime collection of Rs 30-33 crore in India at best. Given its scale and lead star, the film was expected to perform much better. Internationally, the jailbreak drama did decent business of approximately 1.75 million in its first week, though it fell short of expectations for an Alia Bhatt film. Moving forward, filmmakers need to be more selective about the projects they bring to the big screen. With dwindling theater audiences, efforts to reach a wider viewer base are crucial. If theatrical interest remains low, the film’s digital reception will be crucial.
