EXCLUSIVE: Will Lupita Nyong’o Like To Voice Any The Wild Robot Character Other Than Roz? Actress Reveals

Actress Lupita Nyong’o Reveals Interest in Voicing Other Characters in The Wild Robot Besides Roz: Exclusive Interview

Lupita Nyong’o has shared her thoughts on lending her voice to other characters in her latest movie, The Wild Robot. She plays the role of Roz in the film. In an exclusive interview with Pinkvilla, Nyong’o expressed her excitement about voicing a character different from her usual roles. However, when asked if she would choose to voice another character besides Roz, she firmly declined with a heartfelt reason.

Nyong’o stated that she would only choose to voice Roz, her robot character ROZZUM Unit 7134. When questioned about voicing a different character from the movie, the Academy Award-winning actress replied, “No, I prefer not to voice any other characters.”

She elaborated, “The other actors do a fantastic job voicing those characters, and I have a special attachment to Roz.”

The movie revolves around Roz, a service robot who finds herself stranded on a deserted island after a shipwreck. Roz struggles to adapt to her new environment and accidentally disturbs an abandoned goose nest containing a single egg. She nurtures the egg until it hatches, with the help of a Fox Fink voiced by Pedro Pascal and an opossum voiced by Catherine O’Hara.

The goose, named Brightbill and voiced by Heartstopper’s Kit Connor, learns to fly as he grows up; however, he faces challenges in maintaining a strong relationship with Roz after discovering the truth about his mother’s death. As the story unfolds, Roz embarks on various adventures on and off the island that shape her purpose in life.

Roz decides to leave the island to protect its inhabitants, reverting to her factory settings but retaining her memories, culminating in an emotional reunion with Brightbill. The film features a hand-painted visual style reminiscent of classic Disney films and Hayao Miyazaki’s works. This marks DreamWorks’ final film with an entirely in-house team, as future projects will involve collaboration with external studios.

The Wild Robot is set to premiere in international theaters on October 18.
