In one post, Payne mentioned they had been “waking up at 1 PM every day,” though it’s unclear when the content was recorded. These updates on social media left fans questioning, initially thinking the news of his death might be a hoax.
However, local Argentine outlets like La Nacion and Clarin reported that Payne’s death happened around 5:00 PM, an hour before the Snapchat posts were uploaded. Payne was in Buenos Aires after attending a Niall Horan concert earlier in the month. Witnesses at the hotel observed erratic behavior from him before the fall, including smashing his laptop in the lobby.
