Former Tata Group chairman Ratan Naval Tata, who led the transformation of the conglomerate into India’s largest and most influential group, has passed away at the age of 86. Tata, a Padma Vibhushan recipient with a background in Cornell University, breathed his last at Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai. After joining the family-run group in 1962, he became chairman of Tata Industries and eventually took over as chairman of the Tata Group in 1991 from his uncle JRD.
