The Ultimate Premiere Date for Freakier Friday Finally Announced
1. Mary Rodgers‘ novel from 1972 was the inspiration for the 2003 Freaky Friday, the second remake of the story. The original film adaptation was released in 1976, with a television version following in 1995.
2. Producer Andrew Gunn approached Jodie Foster, who played Annabel in the 1976 film, to take on the mother role in the new film. However, Foster declined the offer, concerned that her casting would be a distraction.
3. Annette Bening was set to play Tess Coleman but withdrew from the project just six days before filming was scheduled to start.
4. Jamie Lee Curtis, known for her role in Halloween, initially thought her days as a leading lady were over. Director Mark Waters approached her to replace Bening in the film. Curtis recalled, “I was telling interviewers I was 44, a little chubby, my hair was grey, I was refusing to dye it, and I was content with my life. In this business, I’ve always known there’s a point at which the best thing to do is gently back out of the door.”
