Renowned Climber Michael Gardner Passes Away at 32 in Nepal
An expert mountaineer has tragically passed away.
Michael Radner, a skilled alpine-climber known for his feats on Denali’s Isis Face, Alaska’s Cassin Ridge, and the East Face of Mt. Hunter, lost his life in a fall while climbing Jannu East mountain in Nepal on Oct. 7. He was with his longtime climbing partner Sam Hennessey at the time, as confirmed by Arc’teryx, the climbing gear brand that sponsored him.
The circumstances surrounding his death during his third attempt to descend the North Face of the 24,500-foot mountain are yet to be disclosed, but Arc’teryx stated on social media that Sam is “reported safe.”
“We remember Mike as a beloved individual. He was inquisitive and compassionate,” Arc’teryx shared in an Instagram post on Oct. 8. “His infectious smile and engaging personality endeared him to all. He had a passion for sharing knowledge and connecting with people.”
The message went on to describe the 32-year-old as a “skateboarder, skier, climber, avid skijorer, writer, and mountain guide,” adding, “He embraced a multitude of interests and resisted being categorized by any single label.”
