Actor from Beverly Hills, 90210, Nicholas Pryor, passes away at the age of 89
Hollywood is mourning the loss of a father figure.
Nicholas Pryor—the actor known for his roles as Tom Cruise‘s father in Risky Business, Robert Downey Jr.‘s estranged father in Less Than Zero, and Kathleen Robertson‘s parent in Beverly Hills, 90210—passed away from cancer on Oct. 7 at his North Carolina home, as confirmed by his wife Christine Belford to The Hollywood Reporter. He was 89.
In a note that was posthumously shared, Pryor expressed his gratitude for an almost 70-year-long career as a working actor.
Pryor’s acting career dates back to the ’70s, with early roles in films like Smile and The Gumball Rally.
Throughout the ’80s, he appeared in popular films like Airplane!, Risky Business, and Less Than Zero, before landing a recurring role on Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1994 to 1997.
As a versatile character actor, Pryor also had roles in several soap operas, including The Secret Storm, The Edge of Night, Love Is a Many Splendored Thing, All My Children, and Another World. His most memorable soap role was as Victor Collins on the General Hospital spinoff Port Charles, a role he portrayed from 1997 to 2002.
Following Pryor’s passing, his onscreen son Jon Lindstrom described him as an “actor’s actor” and an “exceptional friend.”
