Meet Arun Subramanian: The New Judge Overseeing Sean Diddy Combs’ Case
In the latest development in the case of Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, a new judge, Arun Subramanian, has taken over. This gives the accused the opportunity to reapply for bail after two previous failed attempts, which were denied by the previous judges, as reported by Business Insider.
Diddy’s case has made headlines once again due to this significant change. The new judge, Arun Srinivas Subramanian, has an impressive professional background that has made history. Born to immigrant parents from India in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, according to Wikipedia.
He pursued his career by attending Case Western Reserve University and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2001. In 2004, he obtained a Juris Doctor from Columbia University.
The Pittsburgh native began his professional journey as a law clerk to Judge Dennis Jacobs of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. He also worked as a law clerk for Judge Gerard E. Lynch of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Subramanian then served as a law clerk for Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the Supreme Court of the United States. He further advanced his career by becoming a partner at the prestigious law firm Susman Godfrey LLC in New York City, specializing in commercial and bankruptcy law from 2007 to 2023, according to the website.
Senator Chuck Schumer recommended him to President Joe Biden, who nominated him to serve as a United States District Judge for the Southern District of New York.
However, his nomination was returned to President Biden under Rule XXXI of the United States Senate’s Paragraph 6 in 2023, as reported by the outlet. Fortunately, he was renominated and eventually confirmed for the position after a 59-37 vote, per the website.
He made history as the first judge of Indian descent to serve on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Additionally, he will preside over the case against Ticketmaster and its parent company, Live Nation Entertainment, for alleged monopoly abuse, filed by the US Department of Justice, according to Wired.
