What Else Have Authorities Said About Artem Chigvintsev’s Arrest?
While Wofford told NBC News that Chigvintsev was arrested in Yountville, Calif, he refrained from disclosing the specific location out of respect for the alleged victim’s privacy.
In response to the victim’s request, he mentioned that the Sheriff’s office is withholding information such as the alleged victim’s name, gender, age, and their relationship to Chigvintsev. Wofford did provide insight into the nature of the arrest, stating,
“When someone is charged with felony domestic violence, it typically indicates the presence of visible injury or a credible eyewitness,” he informed E! News. “Our deputies made the decision to arrest him on felony domestic violence charges based on these circumstances.”
Wofford acknowledged the possibility of the charges evolving with additional evidence, but emphasized that, at the time of the arrest, the deputies deemed it appropriate to pursue felony charges over misdemeanors.
He also addressed the reasons why some victims opt to keep certain details confidential during such situations.
“Some victims may choose not to disclose all information when the suspect is apprehended,” Wofford pointed out. “They may feel ashamed, threatened, or concerned about the repercussions on their family. It is crucial to provide victims with the necessary time and support to help them understand that we are here to assist.”
