Chris Martin Says Coldplay Performing Alongside Michael J Fox at Glastonbury Felt Like ‘Being in Heaven’

Chris Martin Describes Coldplay’s Performance with Michael J Fox at Glastonbury as a Heavenly Experience

Coldplay singer Chris Martin shared his experience of performing with Michael J. Fox at Glastonbury. On The Jimmy Fallon Show, Martin revealed that playing alongside the legendary artist was a surreal experience for him.

Fox, who has been battling Parkinson’s disease since 1991, appeared in a wheelchair for the performance. The Canadian musician joined Martin on guitar for their performance of Human Kind and Fix You.

During his interview on The Jimmy Fallon Show, Martin expressed the special significance of the moment. He mentioned, “I think there are certain things from our childhood that deeply influence our dreams, and one of those for me is Michael in ‘Back to the Future’.”

Reflecting on the experience, Martin said, “It’s so surreal to me that we get to perform with him. It feels like being a 7-year-old in heaven; that’s the feeling. He’s not only inspirational as a person but also the iconic Marty McFly.”

This wasn’t the first time Martin and Fox collaborated at Glastonbury. In the past, Martin had introduced Fox at his Coldplay concerts and charity events. Their first performance together was in 2013 at a gala organized by Fox’s foundation.

Martin recalled, “The first time I played with him was at a charity event, and I asked him if we could perform the songs from ‘Back to the Future,’ and he agreed. During ‘Earth Angel,’ he pretended his hand was disappearing.”

Martin added, “Perhaps the younger audience may not remember, but the disappearing hand is iconic.”

Following his appearance on The Jimmy Fallon Show, Martin had recently performed a duet with Ed Sheeran at the Golden Citizen Festival 2024 in New York. He still can’t believe his childhood dream came true.
