Swifties Believe Travis Kelce’s First Scenes In Grotesquerie Series Referenced a Popular Taylor Swift Track in ‘This Was For Us’
Taylor Swift’s fans, always on the lookout for easter eggs in her songs, didn’t miss her boyfriend’s initial scenes in the Grotesquerie series. Swifties believe that these scenes reference her song, Getaway Car, featured in the Reputation album.
For those unaware, Kelce, playing nurse Ed Lachlan, made his debut in episode 3 of the show as a potential romantic interest for Niecy Nash Betts’s character, Lois Tryon. Ed, a recovering drug addict, meets Lois at the hospital where her husband, Marshall, is in a coma.
The two flirt, and Lois, intoxicated, drives off in her car, causing an accident that lands her back at the hospital where Ed works. The episode ends with them escaping from the hospital hand in hand and driving away in his red convertible, creating a romantic scene.
The exit of these two characters from the show has led Swifties to believe it’s a nod to the songstress’s 2017 track. Fans are buzzing about it online.
One user wrote, “OF COURSE THEY DRIVE OFF IN A RED CONVERTIBLE GETAWAY CAR, THIS WAS FOR US SWIFTIES.” Another shared a clip of Kelce and Betts and exclaimed, “I AM DEADDDDD. #Grotesquerie.”
A Swiftie posted, “it’s always that damn convertible #Grotesquerie.” While another asked, “Getaway car anyone? #Grotesquerie.”
Another user typed, “Why is Travis always driving a red convertible? Getaway car @tkelce @JasonKelce @newheightshow @taylorswift13 #Grotesquerie.”
It’s worth noting that this reference comes nearly a year after the Wildest Dreams singer and her beau made their relationship public at a Cheifs game where they drove off in Kelce’s convertible, per People.
Since then, the couple has been going strong, attending events like Coachella together. Kelce’s surprise appearance during the Era’s Tour show with Swift was also well-received.
Seeing Kelce expand his career to the screen is truly impressive. Grotesquerie episodes air on FX every Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT and are also available on Hulu the next day.
