Eminem’s Touching Response to Daughter Hailie Jade’s Pregnancy
Born in 1955 at a military base in Kansas, Debbie is the mother of Eminem.
She tied the knot with the father of the “Without Me” artist, Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr., at the age of 15, as revealed in her 2008 memoir My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem. She found out she was expecting Eminem just 16 months after the wedding and decided to move to Michigan, where her grandmother resided.
The strained relationship between Debbie and Eminem has been highlighted in several of his songs, like the 2002 hit “Cleanin’ Out My Closet.” In the song, Eminem claimed that Debbie had a problem with prescription pills when he was young—which she refuted in her memoir.
“Who would want to be labeled as a pill-addicted alcoholic living off welfare?” she penned. “None of it was accurate, but the lies kept growing, leading to the estrangement between Marshall and me.”
Nevertheless, Eminem has since expressed remorse for bringing his family issues into the public eye. In his 2013 track “Headlights,” he rapped, “I dove in headfirst, not considering whose feelings I hurt / In which verse, my mom probably took the brunt of it.”
