Voice actor Ken Page from The Nightmare Before Christmas passes away at age 70
The theater world is grieving the loss of a legendary star.
Ken Page, a Broadway actor known for voicing the villain Oogie Boogie in Tim Burton‘s The Nightmare Before Christmas, has passed away peacefully at his home in St. Louis at the age of 70, as confirmed by a representative to USA Today on October 1.
“He sat down in his chair and peacefully passed away in his sleep,” the representative told the publication. “He was a talented and loved man who will be greatly missed.”
Apart from his roles in Broadway shows like Cats, The Wiz, and the 1976 all-Black revival of Guys and Dolls, Page’s most famous role was voicing Oogie Boogie in the iconic Burton Halloween movie. Since its release in 1993, Page continued to voice Oogie Boogie in various The Nightmare Before Christmas projects, including video games and Disney parks.
His close friend, Dorian Hannaway, revealed to the New York Times that Page had been preparing for more Oogie Boogie appearances before his passing. She stressed that he truly enjoyed his role as the villainous character.”
