Anil Kapoor Reflects on 42 Years of Shakti: Recalling Smita Patil’s Kindness in Offering Him Her Room at a ‘Remote’ Hotel
The iconic crime drama film Shakti commemorates its 42nd anniversary today, on October 1, 2024. Anil Kapoor, known for his role as Ravi in the movie, took to social media to express his gratitude for this significant milestone. He fondly remembered the ‘generosity’ of Smita Patil, who went out of her way to assist him by offering him her room when he was staying at a ‘remote’ hotel during the filming of the movie.
To mark the occasion, Anil Kapoor shared a collage of stills from the 1982 film Shakti on his Instagram Stories. He reflected, “42 years of Shakti… A film that gave me unforgettable memories and experiences.”
In his message, Kapoor thanked Javed Akhtar for recommending him for the film, acknowledging that without him, he would not have had the chance to work alongside legendary actors like Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan.
Recalling an incident from the sets, the actor recounted how Smita Patil’s kindness made a difference in his experience. He shared, “I still remember staying in a remote hotel, feeling anxious and isolated. That’s when Smita ji’s incredible generosity shone through – she insisted I stay closer to the set and even offered me her room, treating me like family. Her gesture meant the world to me.”
Anil Kapoor mentioned that back then, as a newcomer in the industry, he had a feeling that something big was in store for him. He said, “I had the confidence to say yes to Shakti even though I was a nobody at the time, working alongside some of the greatest names in Indian cinema.” The veteran actor admitted that he did not anticipate the film to become a ‘timeless classic’.
Expressing gratitude for the journey, Kapoor also praised director Ramesh Sippy for entrusting him with the role of Dilip Kumar’s grandson and Amitabh Bachchan’s son in the film. He concluded by stating that the memories of the film will always hold a special place in his heart.
On the professional front, Anil Kapoor is rumored to be part of the YRF Spy Universe film Alpha alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. Additionally, his series The Night Manager has recently received an International Emmy nomination.
