MTV VMAs Rescheduled to Sept. 11 in 2024 to Steer Clear of Debate Conflict
The 2024 MTV VMAs is rescheduling to Wednesday, Sept. 11 instead of the previously announced Tuesday, Sept. 10. This change is to avoid conflicting with the Sept. 10 presidential debate between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
The 2024 VMAs will still be held at the UBS Arena on New York’s Long Island and will be broadcast live on MTV at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
The first round of performers for this year’s VMAs has been announced, including Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro.
Taylor Swift leads the nominations with 10, followed by Post Malone with nine, and Ariana Grande, Eminem, and Carpenter with six each. GloRilla and Alejandro each received three nominations while Chappell Roan is a first-time nominee for best new artist and MTV Push Performance of the Year. Cabello is nominated for best pop.
Carpenter, Cabello, Roan, GloRilla, and Alejandro are all set to perform at the VMAs. It will mark Carpenter’s main stage debut, Cabello’s third performance, and Roan’s first awards show performance. GloRilla and Alejandro will also make their VMAs debuts.
ABC confirmed that the presidential debate between Harris and Trump will take place on Sept. 10. The debate was in question after Trump initially hesitated to participate. Harris has now secured the necessary delegates to be the Democratic nominee.
